Teaching Pathways
Are you interested in becoming an educator? Brooklyn Center Community Schools hosts a Grow Your Own (GYO) program, which are partnerships between educator preparation programs, school districts or charter schools, and community organizations that recruit and prepare non-certified school staff, interested community members, and high school students to enter the teaching profession and teach in our community.
To begin your application, submit your interest form below and you'll receive further details from a staff member on next steps for your application.
This program is possible through the Minnesota Department of Education's Grow Your Own Grant. Any person who is interested in this program and has additional questions should contact Demonte Baker at dbaker@bccs286.org for more information.
Non-Licensed Staff Members
All current, non-licensed staff are eligible to apply! This includes but is not limited to Tier 1 & 2 teachers, paras, parent liaisons and much more.

Community Members
BCCS is looking for current community members who are interested in shaping the minds of the future and serving the young people of our community. Any community member, with or without professional experience in schools, is welcomed to register for this program!

Secondary Students
This program is designed for secondary-students to explore and engage in activities that cultivate the skills and experiences needed to thrive within the teaching profession. Students must have a good attitude, a great work ethic, and are interested in a career within education!
Class opportunities to gain credit toward graduation will be available for students in grade 9-12 starting in Fall 2024. Club activities are available for interested students in grades 6-12.

Calling All Seniors: Scholarship Opportunity!
Brooklyn Center’s Grow Your Own Program is awarding scholarships to two lucky Seniors in the amount of $5,000.
To qualify:

You must be a graduating Senior.

Have a 2.0 GPA or higher.
-
Plan to attend a Minnesota State College / University.

Plan to pursue a degree in Education (i.e. Elementary Education, Early Childhood, Special Education, 6-12 Science, History, Art education etc.)
