Early childhood screening appointments
An Early Childhood Screening is a Free and simple check of how your child is growing, developing and learning. A child may be screened between the ages of 3 and the start of kindergarten as required by the State of Minnesota. The Early Childhood Screenings include vision and hearing checks, height & weight checks, large and fine motor skills, as well as social and emotional development.
- Age group: 3 - 5 years Old (Includes Students Enter Kindergarten)
- Location: Early Learning at Brooklyn Center Elementary
- Appointments Dates & Time: Availability is by appointment only
- Cost: Free
- What to bring to your appointment: A copy of Birth Certificate & Immunization Record
- How to schedule a visit: Please call us at 763-561-4480 (opt. 5) or email us at earlylearning@bccs286.org schedule an appointment with our Early Learning office this summer.

STEP
STEP offers daily academic and enrichment opportunities. Licensed teachers, qualified youth program staff, and community partners will work with students to help them identify their interests and strengths and develop their academic skills. Students will be able to self-select clubs of interest from such areas as physical activity, music and arts, STEAM, and more.

LEAP
LEAP offers exciting enrichment activities in such areas as arts, entrepreneurship, youth leadership, physical activity, STEM, and more! Middle schoolers will also have time to gain skills in reading and math. The program is led by licensed teachers and qualified youth program staff.

- Eligibility: Participants must be enrolled in BCCS to participate.

- Program Dates: June 15 - July 23, 2026 (Mondays - Thursdays)
- Program Time: 8:45am-1:15pm
- Cost: Free
- Transportation: Provided for those who qualify.

Credit Recovery Courses
This summer, Credit Recovery sessions will be offered to help students earn the necessary academic credits. In partnership with Insight Online School of Minnesota, courses are offered virtually. On-site study hall, meals, and transportation are offered to interested students. Students can also register for LEAP and participate in field trips and afternoon enrichment courses as a part of this opportunity.
- Age Group: Students entering grades 10-12 in Fall 2026.
- Eligibility: Students must be enrolled at BCCS to participate.
- Program Dates: June 15 - July 23, 2026
- Program Time: Times may vary (On-site Study Hall Hours 8:45am-1:15pm)
- Cost: Free
- Transportation: Provided for those who qualify.
- Breakfast and Lunch: Provided to all participants.
- Registration: Click here to register. In addition to your registration, students should work directly with their school guidance counselor to determine their course needs and complete their enrollment in summer credit recovery courses.

Centaur Plus
Our fee-based childcare program provides fun and engaging activities for school-age children during after-school, non-school days, and summer.
- Age Group: Students entering grades PreK-5 in Fall 2026
- Location: Brooklyn Center Elementary
- Program Dates: June 9 - August 21, 2026 (Mondays - Fridays)
- Times: 7:30am - 4:00pm
- Transportation: Not provided
- Breakfast and Lunch: Provided daily
- Cost: $31 per day

Special Education Extended School Year (ESY)
Extended school year services are required by the State of Minnesota for students with disabilities to attain and maintain skills identified in annual goals and in order to provide a free, appropriate public education. Elementary ESY integrates with STEP to provide ESY services and enrichment opportunities. Secondary ESY integrates with LEAP to provide ESY services and enrichment opportunities. ESY often does not address all of the IEP services on a student’s IEP, but only those IEP goals for which a student qualifies for ESY services. A student must be determined eligible for ESY through the IEP team process.

- ESY - Grades 7-12 (Insight Online): Will be scheduled during typical school day timeframes with the ESY Special Education teacher based on the services identified in the IEP.
- Cost: Free
- Transportation: Provided to eligible students.
- Breakfast and Lunch: Provided to in-person students.
- Registration: Complete registration form mailed home to eligible students. Family letters will be sent home in April, requiring a response to participate by May 15, 2026.
