STEP 

  • Age group: Students entering grades 1-5 in Fall 2024 at Brooklyn Center Elementary 
  • Location: Brooklyn Center Elementary
  • Program dates: June 17th - July 25th 
  • Program Time: 8:00am - 2:00pm
  • Cost: Free
  • Transportation provided for those who qualify. Breakfast, lunch and snacks provided to all participants.
  • STEP offers daily academic and enrichment opportunities. Licensed teachers, qualified youth program staff, and community partners will work with students to help them identify their interests and strengths and develop their academic skills. Students will be able to self-select clubs of interest from such areas as physical activity, music and arts, STEAM and more.

LEAP

  • Age group: Students entering grades 6-12 in fall 2024 at Brooklyn Center Middle and High School STEAM
  • Location: Brooklyn Center Middle & High School 
  • Program dates: June 17th - July 25th
  • Program Time: 9:30am - 1:00pm
  • Cost: Free
  • Transportation provided for those who qualify. Breakfast and lunch provided to all participants.
  • LEAP offers exciting enrichment activities in such areas as arts, entrepreneurship, youth leadership, physical activity, STEM, and more! Middle schoolers will also have time to gain skills in reading and math. The program is led by licensed teachers and qualified youth program staff.

Youth Employment Opportunities at Brooklyn Center Middle and High School

  • MTA: In partnership with Minnesota Trades Academy (MTA), work side by side with professionals as you learn the ins and outs of the trades industry. From learning about various training programs to navigating the unions, this internship will provide you with knowledge to explore all post-secondary options. In addition, to provide a more hands-on experience, interns will work on building a structure to be put onto the BCMHS school grounds.  Students interested in MTA must request the MTA program at BCCS.

  • Garden Internships: Garden interns will work with the district Garden Lead and our partners from Three Rivers Park District to learn about and maintain the school gardens over the summer. Contact Chloe Cotherman at ccotherman@bccs286.org to learn more!

 


 

 

Credit Recovery High School

  • Age group: Students entering grades 10-12 in fall 2024. 
  • Program dates: June 17th - July 25th
  • Program Time: 9:30am - 1:00pm
  • Cost: Free
  • Transportation provided for those who qualify. Breakfast and lunch provided to all participants.
  • This summer, Credit Recovery sessions will be offered both in-person and virtually.  A licensed teacher will provide ongoing coaching and support to the student as they progress through their course(s). 
  • Students should work directly with their school guidance counselor to determine their course needs and complete their enrollment in summer credit recovery courses.

Credit Acceleration

 

Credit Acceleration High School

  • Age group: Students entering grades 9-12 in fall 2024
  • Program dates: June 17th - July 25th
  • Program Time: 9:30am - 1:00pm 
  • Transportation provided for those who qualify. Breakfast and lunch provided to all participants.
  • This summer, Credit Acceleration courses will be offered onsite for high school students interested in earning an elective credit. Onsite elective courses will be offered based on staff and student interest. The credit acceleration program provides students the opportunity to earn high school elective credits in courses that they may not be able to schedule during the school year.
  • Credit Acceleration opportunities will include Centaur Broadcast, a course that will teach students about media and journalism and allow them to contribute to the community by covering events/stories that matter most to them. The goal is to create a student-led news organization at Brooklyn Center! Centaur Broadcast will be offered by Brooklyn Center alumnus, Cheyene Bialke, a senior at the University of St. Thomas earning a degree in journalism and media production.

  • Age group: Students entering grades 1-4 in fall 2024
  • Location: Brooklyn Center Middle & High School’s Blue Barn, unless otherwise specified
  • Program dates: June 17th - August 15th
  • Program times: 8:45am-3:00pm

Centaur Strength and Conditioning

  • Age group: Students entering grades 6-12 in fall 2024
  • Location: Brooklyn Center High School
  • Program dates: June 11, 12, 13, 18, 19, 20, 25, 26, 27
    July 9, 10, 11, 16, 17, 18, 23, 24, 25, 30, 31 
    August 1

Centaur Plus

  • Age group: Students entering grades Pre-K-5 in fall 2022
  • Location: Brooklyn Center Elementary
  • Program Dates: June 10th - August 16th (Mondays - Fridays)
  • Times: 7:30am - 5:00pm

Centaur Beginnings 

  • Age group: Children of BC staff, students with limited community spaces. 
  • Location: Centaur Beginnings located inside of the BC Early College Academy at 5910 Shingle Creek Parkway, Brooklyn Center
  • Program Dates: June 17th - August 8th (Mondays - Thursdays)
  • Times: 7:00am - 3:30pm

Summer Preschool Prep

  • Age group: Children ages 3-4 years old. 
  • Location:  Located inside of Early Learning at Brooklyn Center Elementary School  1500 59th Avenue North, Brooklyn Center
  • Program Dates: June 18th - August 8th (Tuesdays - Thursdays)  
  • Times: 7:30am - 3:30pm
  • Summer Preschool Prep is a preschool introduction program for 3 & 4 year olds entering Preschool or Pre-K fall of 2024.

CANCELED: Summer Soccer Camp at Brooklyn Center Elementary

  • Age group: Students entering grades 1-5 in fall 2024  
  • Location: Brooklyn Center Elementary and Grandview Park 
  • Program dates: June 17th - July 25th
  • Program Time: 8:15am - 10:45 am
  • Cost: Free
  • Brooklyn Center Community Schools is partnering with the Sanneh Foundation to provide a free, healthy, and FUN camp experience to help players learn and improve their soccer skills, while developing positive relationships with local male and female role models. Each camp day is filled with exciting games and soccer-specific activities for kids to play, learn, and meet new friends. 
  • Note: As of April 1, 2024, this camp has been canceled. BCCS will publish updates on our website and via family newsletters of anything changes. 

 


 

 

Special Education Extended School Year (ESY) - ECSE

  • Age group: current ECSE students ages 3-5
  • Eligibility: Students are eligible for ESY based on the IEP Team’s decision
  • Location: Brooklyn Center Elementary
  • Program Dates: July 8th - August 1st, Monday-Thursday (no programming July 4th)
  • Program Time: 8:30-11:00am
  • Transportation provided. Breakfast and snack provided.
  • Extended school year services are required by the State of Minnesota for students with disabilities to attain and maintain skills identified in annual goals and in order to provide a free, appropriate public education. ESY often does not address all of the IEP services on a student’s IEP, but only those IEP goals for which a student qualifies for ESY services. A student must be determined eligible for ESY through the IEP team process. 

  • Registration: For student’s who are eligible, family letters will be sent home in April, requiring a response to participate by May 10.

  • Program Time: 8:00am - 2:00pm
  • Transportation provided. Breakfast and lunch provided.
  • Extended school year services are required by the State of Minnesota for students with disabilities to attain and maintain skills identified in annual goals and in order to provide a free, appropriate public education. Elementary ESY integrates with STEP to provide ESY services and enrichment opportunities. ESY often does not address all of the IEP services on a student’s IEP, but only those IEP goals for which a student qualifies for ESY services. A student must be determined eligible for ESY through the IEP team process.

  • Program Dates: June 17th - July 25th, Monday-Thursday (no programming July 4th) 
  • Program Time: 9:30 - 1:00
  • Transportation provided. Breakfast and lunch provided.
  • Extended school year services are required by the State of Minnesota for students with disabilities to attain and maintain skills identified in annual goals and in order to provide a free, appropriate public education. Secondary ESY integrates with LEAP to provide ESY services and enrichment opportunities. ESY often does not address all of the IEP services on a student’s IEP, but only those IEP goals for which a student qualifies for ESY services. A student must be determined eligible for ESY through the IEP team process.

  • Program Time: 9:30 - 11:30am
  • Extended school year services are required by the State of Minnesota for students with disabilities to attain and maintain skills identified in annual goals and in order to provide a free, appropriate public education. ESY often does not address all of the IEP services on a student’s IEP, but only those IEP goals for which a student qualifies for ESY services. A student must be determined eligible for ESY through the IEP team process.
