Tuesday, November 10, 2020 – Monday, November 16 will be the final day of in-person athletics practices and games for the foreseeable future. The regular season for fall athletics will finish as scheduled but all post-season games are canceled. Winter athletics will be postponed, however, coaches will be in touch with winter athletes about virtual opportunities.
Earlier today, district leaders reviewed data that shows cases of COVID-19 in our community. As of Tuesday, November 10, cases in Brooklyn Center were 74.8 cases per 10,000 people; and 57.6 cases per 10,000 in Hennepin County.
“Now that we see Hennepin County nearing 60 cases per 10,000 residents, and Brooklyn Center cases continue to rise, we need to again dial back the number of students participating in onsite activities,” said Superintendent Dr. Carly Baker.
Winter athletics contests will be postponed until at least January 4, 2021. Virtual coaching and connections with winter athletes will be permitted throughout the remainder of the 2020 calendar year. The district will be in the distance learning model until at least January 4, 2021. Throughout December, district leaders will continue to monitor cases in our community to determine which learning model to implement after winter break. The status of winter athletics will also be evaluated during this time.
