Juneteenth 2021 is coming soon — celebrate with us!

Friday, June 18, 2021

The Juneteenth holiday, celebrated annually on June 19, marks the federal emancipation of all enslaved people in the United States. This official rejection of the institution of slavery was a watershed moment that paved the way for greater and more diversified justice in the decades to follow.

While we are keenly aware that our society today has many flaws and we still have so much equity yet to accomplish, our community is excited to honor the Juneteenth holiday together!
How will you celebrate this year? We’d love to see your photos and celebrations — be sure to tag us on social media @BCCS286. If you want to learn more, take a few minutes to read through this excellent overview crafted by Henry Louis Gates, Jr. for PBS called, What is Juneteenth?
