Renee Starr hired as youth programs manager

Renee Starr June 3, 2019 – Renee Starr was hired as the youth programs manager for the district. Starr has been the 21st Century Site Coordinator at Earle Brown Elementary STEAM since November 2018.

“I am thrilled to have Renee continue working on the community engagement team and to start as our youth programs manager,” said Seth Ryan, director of community engagement. “In a short amount of time, Renee has shown a passion for Brooklyn Center students and families. Her ability to grow and build programs will help our before-and after-school flourish and enrich the school experience for our students.”

Starr’s new duties include managing the district’s 21st Century Grant programs, STEP 21 and LEAP 21, as well as managing the district’s targeted services program.

Prior to working in Brooklyn Center Community Schools, Starr was a case manager for the Bridge for Youth and a data assistant for the Brooklyn Bridge Alliance for Youth. She also worked in out-of-school time for the Roseville Area School District. Starr received a bachelor of fine arts in dance and a masters of social work from the University of Minnesota. When she’s not at work, Starr enjoys spending time with family and working on dance, photography, film and music projects.

Starr said she enjoys serving the Brooklyn Center community because of the people. She is excited about the work of the community engagement team and interacting with students.

“I'm inspired by our district's constant work towards improving the educational experience for our students,” Starr said. “I hope to provide our youth engagement staff with anything and everything they need to build strong relationships with our students and families and enhance the wonderful sense of community we have here in BC.”
