Monday, February 27, 2023
Five Brooklyn Center High School STEAM students have been awarded scholarships from the Thielen Foundation.
The Thielen Foundation awards $1,000 for higher education each year to varsity athletes who maintain a 2.0 GPA throughout the sports season and exemplify leadership qualities on their teams and in the classroom.
Read about each athlete from their coaches as noted by the Thielen Foundation:
Daisy Adams (Cross Country)
“Daisy has been a part of the cross country program since 8th grade. She has earned all conference twice in her career. She is very self-motivated and works hard to push herself at practice and during the off season. She is a very deserving person who will use this scholarship wisely in the future as she pursues her studies after high school.”
Emma Olson (Volleyball)
“Emma Olson has been a 3 year varsity player. She has been an on-court captain all season and brings varsity experience to a young team. Emma worked with our younger players to teach them basics and improve their skills. She has used her knowledge of the game to provide individual coaching for those who were new to the sport. Off the court, Emma is an outstanding academic student.”
Andres Inamagua (Soccer)
“Andres was very important for us this season, despite all our shortcomings, his presence at games and practices was constant, and a source of leadership for the younger underclassmen and even his peers. He always kept his head high, and demonstrated exemplary sportsmen & leadership while pushing his teammates to follow suit.”
Sofiat Adewale (Soccer)
“Sofiat Adewale is a senior at Brooklyn Center and has participated in the girls soccer program. She has excelled in her studies and is currently doing PSEO at North Hennepin Community College. Her consistent attendance, participation and skill made her a leader by example to our young team. She hopes to go to college and continue to play soccer in any way, shape or form.”
Lucas Lee (Football)
“I have known Lucas since he was in the 7th grade and I am very proud of his growth on and off the field. Lucas has become a very hard working person in the classroom. Lucas is a leader amongst his peers by example and holds others accountable. Thielen Foundation's scholarship will be an excellent investment into a young man with tremendous potential.”
