Celebrating Black History Month in BC

February is Black History Month! Carter G. Woodson founded Black History Month in 1915 as a way to ensure the contributions, power, brilliance, and resilience of Black people are never forgotten. We use this month as a time to not only recognize Black history and find ways to grow toward a better future, but to celebrate all that our Black community is right now.

Black History Month Event at BC

Join us for: I AM...Black History, A Tribute To New York. 

We all know that New York is called the city of bright lights. But do you know the African American history that comes from New York? Join us as BCCS scholars take you on a trip to the city! You will learn about prominent people, historical eras, venues, and events in an original stage play, I AM...Black History, A Tribute To New York.

Other things happening around the district in honor of Black History Month

- Performances of "The Meeting" by Westbone Productions

This production conveys the perspectives of Malcolm X and Martin Luther King Jr., their intense conflicts of solutions into a resolve of great honor and respect for one another. Performances will be offered in the auditorium for high school students and livestreamed for grades 4-8.

- Community organizations, alumni and partners will be offering "Teach-Ins" with various themed workshops and seminars throughout the month for middle and high school students connected to themes around Black history, joy, identity, culture and futures.
