Three Brooklyn Center High School STEAM seniors have been awarded scholarships from the Thielen Foundation.
The Thielen Foundation awards $1,000 for higher education each year to varsity athletes who maintain a 2.0 GPA throughout the sports season and exemplify leadership qualities on their teams and in the classroom.
Nate Gautsch, athletic director, provided his praise and congratulations to each scholarship recipient:
Boys Cross Country — Daniel Retic
“Daniel was a senior captain this year in cross country and has been a member of the team ever since the program started a few years ago. He did a great job of being a role model for his younger teammates and brought a lot of energy and life to practice. He is also a great student, taking college classes throughout his junior and senior year.”
Football — Jon Meader
“Jonathan Meader is the model of consistency and productivity for a student athlete. He is an exceptional leader on and off the field. He has been the captain of our football team the last two years, and has earned a starting position on the varsity football level the last four years.”
Volleyball — Nayeli Williams
“Nayeli has been a starting varsity player for the past four seasons. Nayeli's hard work and commitment to volleyball earned her All-Conference honors. For the past four years, Nayeli has been a leader both on and off the court, meeting with teachers, administration, and families using her student voice as an advocate for many people.”
