Summer Programming 2019

Elementary student learning math Students in Brooklyn Center Community Schools are invited to participate in our summer programming!

Most classes run Mondays – Thursdays from Monday, June 17 – Thursday, July 25. There is no programming July 4. Transportation, breakfast and lunch is provided at no cost. Register by Friday, May 24, 2019 to guarantee transportation for the first day of class.

FOR STUDENTS ENTERING GRADES K-5 IN FALL 2019

Kindergarten Prep
For students entering kindergarten in fall 2019

Families with students entering kindergarten in fall 2019 should consider registering for our free Kindergarten Prep program. The program is designed for students who have had limited experiences with school.

Class runs from 8 a.m. – 2 p.m. on Mondays – Thursdays. To register and for other information, please call Amy Bednar at 763-561-4480 x5001.

STEP 21
For students entering grades 1-5 in fall 2019

STEP 21 helps students accelerate their skills in reading and math as well as in other core academics areas. Students will also participate in enrichment activities to develop building community awareness, creativity and leadership skills.

FOR STUDENTS ENTERING GRADES 6-12 IN FALL 2019

LEAP 21
For students entering grades 6-9 in fall 2019

Students will accelerate their skills in math and reading in a camp-like atmosphere with the opportunity to explore a topic of interest. LEAP 21 is an immersive academic and enrichment experience that includes field trips.

Credit Recovery High School
For students entering grades 10-12 in fall 2019

Students will work through the program APEX, which is designed for students to work in a course they missed or did not pass.

OTHER SUMMER PROGRAMMING INFORMATION AND OPPORTUNITIES

Extended School Year (ESY)
For students entering grades K-12 in fall 2019 who receive special education services

The determination for a student to qualify for ESY is made on an individualized basis through the student’s IEP team. Questions? Contact your student’s case manager.

Bright Start Child Care
Fee-based before-and after-school child care program available during the school year, non-school days, summer

In need of child care this summer? Register now for Bright Start Child Care! Bright Start is a fee-based program that provides high-quality school-age child care for families and youth in grades Pre-K-5. We offer a safe, nurturing, educational and recreational experience where children are encouraged to pursue interests and develop friendships, independence, and confidence.

Bright Start offers children a wide range of choice-based activities for groups and individuals such as arts and crafts, dramatic play areas, board games, science equipment, manipulatives, gym games, outside time and constructive play. Children are offered choices of enrichment activities each day to participate in led by Bright Start Staff.

Our summer hours are 6:30 a.m. – 6 p.m. Students go on weekly field trips to fun, enriching and exciting destinations to further enhance their educational and recreational experience. Our summer program runs June 10 – August 16 on Mondays – Fridays. We are closed on July 4.

Bright Start program includes breakfast in the morning and a snack during the afternoon program. During the summer, lunch is provided June 17 – August 2. Our meal and snack complies with our district Wellness Policy and meets USDA guidelines.

Baby Steps
For teen parents enrolled in summer programming and BCCS staff members

Summer Baby Steps is available Monday-Thursday from 7 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. and is located across the hall from the Brooklyn Center Early College Academy, 5910 Shingle Creek Parkway, Suite 1A, Brooklyn Center, MN 55430. Please contact Jakarta Turner at 763-503-8982 to register.

Transportation
Transportation is provided for all eligible students entering grades K-12

If you have moved or have an elementary school student attending summer school, you must complete a transportation request form and return it to the Transportation Office by no later than Friday, May 24, 2019. The transportation request form is located on the district’s website, in the office at each school, and at the Transportation Office.

All transportation request forms received after May 24 will be processed and transportation will start on Monday, June 24, 2019. All transportation request forms received after June 24, 2019 will be processed and transportation will start 3-5 business days after date of receipt of the transportation request form.

The Transportation Office is located at Brooklyn Center High School, 6500 Humboldt Ave. N, Brooklyn Center, MN 55430. Contact us at transportation@bccs286.org or 763-450-3386 x1201. The Transportation Office will be open 7 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. Monday – Friday from June 10 – August 30. The office will be closed July 4-5.
