Class of 2018 Brooklyn Center High School alumnus Kerkulah Collins has found a career in tech. Set to graduate from Minnesota State University - Mankato in the spring, he has landed an internship at SciTech where he will transition into a full time position as a Computer Programmer Apprentice.
“Growing up, I have always been fascinated by how things work,” Collins said. “In college, my field of study is Computer Information Technology because I believe in making a difference in people's lives through technology.”
Collins was a part of AVID while at BC, and when reflecting on what sparked his passion, he notes, “Brooklyn Center helped me discover what I wanted to pursue in my future career by preparing me for college, connecting me with different institutions through field trips, and most importantly teaching me how to manage my time well.”
Collins’ advice to current BC students who are looking to find their career path is to take advantage of job shadowing, mentorship, and research. “Students should focus on what they are passionate about and be consistent in their pursuit,” he said.
Collins hopes to someday own an independent software vendor company and offer internship opportunities for college and high school students to develop their experience in tech.
