Phased Approach to Lifting Pandemic Mitigation Strategies Update

Dear BC Community,

This is a reminder that we are beginning to see a decrease in COVID-19 cases throughout our district. The data from our school sites and the Brooklyn Park and Brooklyn Center areas are telling us that we are at a point where it is safe to continue to lift some of our pandemic mitigation strategies. 

Today we have concluded our contact tracing districtwide to allow staff capacity to increase and support our efforts to return to pre-pandemic learning. This means that we will no longer be conducting inquiry interviews to determine exposure among students and staff. As we move forward, parents at Brooklyn Center Elementary STEAM will be notified if a student in their child’s classroom has tested positive. We have made this decision due to the fact that at the elementary school, students stay together throughout the day for all of their classes and activities. We are asking that staff and students continue to report positive cases to our nurses. We will continue to monitor reported cases on the district dashboard and report data to the Minnesota Department of Health.

In addition, as of today, we are no longer requiring proof of vaccination for fans at sporting or extracurricular events. At this time, masks are still required for all spectators, students, and staff at any sporting or extracurricular event on district property.

Looking forward: As we return from spring break, district leadership will examine case rates and district-wide data. We plan to lift the mask mandate on Monday, April 11, 2022 if the data supports this decision. Following this change, masks will be recommended but not required while on district property.
