Megan Falnes

How many years have you attended school in the district?

What groups, activities or sports have you been involved in at Brooklyn Center High School?

Theatre, Women's Soccer, Softball, Wrestling, Summer Strength, National Honor Society, and Student Council

What is your favorite memory of high school?

My favorite memories come from my years on the wrestling team. Shout out to the guys!!! I already miss the intense practices and long Saturdays. Thank you for challenging me. Thank you for supporting me. Finally, thanks for learning how to handle a female wrestler as I learned how to become one. The memories are both positive and negative, but I consider all of them my favorites.

Who is your favorite teacher and why?
Mr. Parks is my favorite teacher. Forgive me for not knowing exactly why. I guess we just started this high school adventure together; my peers, him, and I. He started working at BC when the graduating class of 2020 was in 6th grade. He has been there the whole time and he grew with us. Thank you, Mr. Parks, for not only teaching us but learning with us.

Brooklyn Center Community Schools stands front and center for Collaboration, Inclusivity and Unity. What do you stand front and center for?
I believe I stand for the redefining of stereotypes. The new normal is our chance, as a graduating class, to bring the community together and change the impulsive assumptions given to people and groups. There is strength in knowing we are individuals. I am not a 'theatre kid' or a 'jock' or a 'nerd'. Don't label me. I am all three and I am so much more. The same could be said about my peers. We are the class of 2020.

Why do you love being a Centaur?
The group of kids that I have grown up with since the 1st grade is truly remarkable. Our differences seem to bring us together. I guess the only way to describe it is we are weird. We are weird in our own way. We are weird together. I love being a Centaur because of the community of students I get to grow with.

What are your plans after graduation?
I am going to attend the University of Southern California in the School of Cinematic Arts. There I will study film and media. I have the opportunity to dive into the entertainment industry this year and to help redefine movies during this global setback.

What advice would you give someone just starting high school?
Prove to yourself (not anyone else) who you are, what you are capable of, and who you will become. There are many people in your life whose opinions matter to you. Promise yourself you will put your opinions first.
