Celebrating Juneteenth in our community

Friday, June 19 is Juneteenth, the oldest nationally celebrated commemoration of the ending of slavery in the United States. Dating back to 1865, Union soldiers arrived in Galveston, TX on June 19 to deliver news that the Civil War had ended and the enslaved were now free. Click here to learn more on Juneteenth.com.

As a community, we are dealing with two public health crises, racism and COVID-19,” said Miamon Queeglay, community schools manager. “We encourage our community to celebrate Juneteenth while practicing safety measures, such as social distancing and wearing masks.”

Testing for COVID-19 is now widely available and free. To find your testing location, visit the MN COVID-19 response page.
