Two BCCS employees selected as nominees for Youth Success award

January 9, 2020 – Renee Starr, youth programs manager for the district, and Tom Parks, social studies teacher at Brooklyn Center High School, were nominated for the Champion for Accelerating Youth Success award in the Brooklyn Center and Brooklyn Park community. Each year, the Brooklyn Bridge Alliance for Youth celebrates a person(s) or program serving as a champion in our community who has demonstrated a commitment to doing the following:

  1. Mobilizing caring adults: Builds a trusting and supportive network of people that are committed to the success of youth.
  2. Spreading social emotional learning: Creates an ecosystem that enables youth to cultivate essential life, social, and emotional skills.
  3. Creating equitable access: Increases equitable access to resources and opportunities.
  4. Creating systems change: Redesigns systems (programs, places, polices etc) to be culturally responsive so all youth succeed.
  5. Providing youth engagement: Makes room for incorporating youth voice, leadership, and action. 

Voting is taking place now until midnight on Sunday, January 12. The winner will be announced at the Alliance Board Meeting on January 22.
