Construction Update – Information about the south campus opening

January 11, 2018 – Plans are underway to begin construction at Brooklyn Center Middle and High School STEAM on Thursday, January 17. In order for construction to begin, we will need to modify the current building configuration. Middle school students will remain in the north wing of the building. High school students will be transported to south campus, 5951 Earle Brown Dr, Brooklyn Center, MN 55430, for part of the day so construction can begin in the west wing of the building. Students will start taking class at south campus on the first day of second semester on Wednesday, January 23, 2019.

Start and End Times

The school board approved during its regular meeting on December 10, 2018 to change the start and end times for Brooklyn Center Middle and High School STEAM starting in January. Because students will be shuttled between the current campus (north campus) and the new south campus, the start and end times need to be adjusted. The board approved the new start time be moved to 7:36 a.m. and the end of the school day be moved to 2:36 p.m. The new start and end times will begin when the south campus opens on Wednesday, January 23, 2019. The north and south campuses will operate on the same bell schedule. Click here to view the new daily schedule.

Transportation Changes

Because the school day will start about 20 minutes earlier, bus routes will be adjusted. A letter will be sent home with each BCS student on Monday, January 14 or Tuesday, January 15 with their new bus route information. After busses have completed their morning routes, busses will first go to north campus and drop off any students who have their first hour class at the north campus. Students who have their first hour class at south campus will remain on the bus and will then be transported to the south campus.

Students who currently walk to school will continue to walk north campus, even if their first hour class is at south campus. Walkers should plan to arrive to north campus by 7:15 a.m. and will take a bus to south campus.

Students who are dropped off in the mornings can be dropped off at either the north campus or the south campus, depending on their first hour class:

  • North campus: rooms 100-499
  • South campus: rooms 600-699

Please refer to the next section for changes to our parking lot flow for drop-off and pick-up procedures.

At the end of the day, students at south campus will release from seventh hour at 2:36 p.m. and be bussed to the north campus. Students at north campus will enter an advisory period after seventh hour while south campus students are transported to the north campus. Busses will leave north campus at the same time they left during first semester.

For families that pick-up students at the end of the day, please follow our new pick-up procedures below. All parent pick-up will take place at north campus. Students will be released from the north campus around 2:55 p.m. All students must leave south campus before it closes at 3:30 p.m.

Parking Lot Flow

The current parking lot that’s used for drop-off and pick-up will be inaccessible during construction so we have new procedures for families. For drop-off and pick-up, families will enter and exit the parking lot off of Dupont Avenue. Please refer to the map for more information:
