If you are new to the Brooklyn Center Community Schools School District, you will be provided a Transportation Request form from the Enrollment Center.  Once completed, the Enrollment Center will submit to the Transportation Department. The Transportation Department will set up your transportation route and you will receive a notification about your bus route.

No. Bus stops will not be added during the first two weeks of the school year. Students will be assigned to the nearest bus stop. The Transportation Department will set up transportation within five (5) business days. Once transportation has been set up, the Transportation Department will notify the family/guardian.

A student who open enrolls from the Minneapolis, Robbinsdale, or other School Districts must complete a transportation request form. If capacity allows, the student will be assigned to the nearest bus stop within District boundaries. If capacity does not allow, transportation would not be provided to the student. The parent/guardian/student would have to provide transportation.

Please contact your student's school directly to update your address. Once the address is updated in the student information system it will automatically be sent to our routing software. As soon as your student is routed you will receive an email and phone all with updated transportation information.

Yes.  All students can be assigned to one stop in the morning and a different stop in the afternoon.  The stop in the morning has to be consistent all week and the stop in the afternoon must be consistent all week.  Students can’t be picked up or dropped off at different stops throughout the week. They must remain consistent for the safety of your student.

It is more safe and efficient for bus stops to be centrally located at a corner within a neighborhood.

All regular education bus stops are located at centrally located corners. Daycare providers and/or parent/guardians are responsible for ensuring that students arrive safely at their assigned bus stop.

Students should arrive at their assigned bus stop no less than five (5) minutes prior to their scheduled bus stop time. Drivers make every effort to run their routes on time. However, unforeseen circumstances can cause a bus to run late.  Therefore, students should always remain at their assigned stop ten (10) minutes beyond their scheduled pick-up time. If the bus is more than ten minutes late, students may return to their homes and have someone call the transportation department at (763) 272 - 4856 to inquire about the status of their bus.

Unfortunately, buses cannot retrace routes to pick up students who missed their bus. Parents/guardians are responsible for ensuring that students who miss their bus are able to get to school.

Please note that even when buses are delayed, students are still responsible for being at the bus stop in order to be transported to school. If your student misses the delayed bus, you will be responsible for arranging for your student to  get to school.

We suggest the following for families of first-time bus riders:

• Make sure your student knows how to get to the bus stop; how to identify the stop while riding the bus; and how to walk home from the stop.
• Teach your child the bus number and where to find the number (next to the entrance door).
• Encourage your first-time rider to talk with the bus driver about any questions your student might have.
• For the first couple of weeks, have a friend or family member accompany your student to and from the bus stop until your student is familiar with the routine.
• If a younger student has an older sibling, we suggest that they accompany the younger sibling throughout the transportation process.
• Dress your student properly for weather conditions.
• Remind your children of the basic school bus rules: hands to oneself; seat on seat; quiet inside voices; and listen to the bus driver.
• To avoid lost or missing child reports, remind your children to return home before going anywhere else after school.
