What is MTSS?

At Brooklyn Center Community Schools, we are committed to helping every student thrive both academically and socially. As part of this effort, we use a framework called MTSS (Multi-Tiered System of Supports) to ensure all students receive the right support at the right time throughout the school year.

What is MTSS?

MTSS is a proactive, data-informed approach to support learning and well-being. It includes:

  • Tier 1: High-quality classroom instruction and practices for all students
  • Tier 2: Targeted support in small groups for students who need additional help
  • Tier 3: Individualized, intensive interventions for students needing more support

This system helps us respond to student needs in real time and monitor their progress. Support may include academic interventions, social-emotional skill building, or behavior strategies.

How Does This Affect My Child?

Throughout the year, your child may receive different types of support based on their needs. This doesn’t mean they’re behind—it means we are personalizing learning to help them succeed.

We also review progress regularly to adjust instruction, offer resources, and collaborate with families. You may hear from your child’s teacher or a specialist about how we’re working together to support your child.

E-Learning & Digital Supports

To help learning continue beyond the classroom, we also offer digital tools and e-learning resources, including:

  • Seesaw, Google Classroom, Canvas, etc.

  • Access to practice activities and enrichment at home

  • Online communication tools to stay in touch with teachers

We encourage families to use these tools to reinforce skills at home and stay connected with what’s happening in class.

Questions? Let’s Stay Connected.

If you ever have questions about MTSS, the support your child is receiving, or how to use our digital tools at home, please don’t hesitate to reach out to your child’s teacher or our support team.

Together, we can ensure every student grows and succeeds.
