Two seniors receive full-ride Posse Scholarships

Brooklyn Center High School seniors Justin Parnjan and Cooper Yang have received full-ride Posse scholarships to attend Macalester College. The BCS administration and the college and career readiness teams took time to celebrate these great accomplishments with a special gathering for these students. During this recognition, our student recipients took time to reflect on their experience at Brooklyn Center and recognize the people in their lives that support them.

When thinking about what this scholarship means to him, Justin Parnjan said that receiving this scholarship “means that all I’ve done from 6th to 12th grade paid off.” He reflected that this scholarship represents his success and highlighted people who were important in his journey at Brooklyn Center. “Being a shy kid to, now, an outspoken kid, [this scholarship] is the greatest reward to my growth. I would like to recognize my 6th grade social studies teacher, Ms. Nguyen, for her foundational support in shaping my social perspective and Ms. Dodds for pushing post-secondary education.” Justin is looking forward to life after graduation with hopes of attending Macalester College where he wants to learn about what gives the Asian American identity meaning in a diverse society and figure out how to center education in the stories of our youth.

When considering what this scholarship means to him, Cooper Yang said, “Receiving this scholarship shows the hard work I put in for the last four years of high school; but more than that, it shows how supportive Brooklyn Center staff have been for me to be one of the ten Posse [scholarship recipients this year].” Cooper wants to specifically recognize his guidance counselor, Mr. Kane, for his support throughout his years in high school. He is excited to attend college after high school and plans to study engineering.

Brooklyn Center Community Schools celebrates and congratulates these students as they prepare for life after graduation!
