Technology Back to School Reminders

As we prepare for the upcoming school year, here are reminders of student technology expectations and what you can expect this fall. Have additional questions? Contact your front office for more information.

School-Issued Devices by Grade Level

  • Grades K–2: Students will use iPads that stay at school and are kept in classroom carts.
  • Grades 3–8: Students will begin the year using Chromebooks from classroom carts. Middle school students (grades 6–8) may be assigned individual Chromebooks to take home later in the year once they’ve demonstrated readiness and responsibility.
  • Grades 9–12: High school students will be assigned a Chromebook at the start of the year, which they are allowed to take home for schoolwork and assignments.

Internet Access at Home
If your family does not currently have internet access at home, we recommend looking into Xfinity Internet Essentials, which offers affordable plans starting at $15/month.

Digital Platforms by Grade Level

  • K–5: Students use Seesaw for learning activities and communication.
  • 6–12: Students use Canvas to access assignments, submit work, and communicate with teachers.

BCCS Portal and Clever

  • Students across all grades may use Clever to access digital learning tools, especially in elementary grades where it’s more commonly used.
  • All platforms and learning tools are accessible through the BCCS Portal(https://portal.bccs286.org), which uses Single Sign-On (SSO). Students can practice logging in at home using this portal. If login credentials are unknown, they will be provided during the first week of school.

Technology Support
If students have a tech issue, they should start by asking their teacher, who can often resolve basic problems. If more support is needed, the teacher can submit a Help Desk ticket on the student’s behalf.
