Keeping Our Community Alert, Informed and Engaged

Technology plays a critical role in ensuring a positive school climate, culture and learning environment for our entire BCCS community. Additionally, in emergency situations, we rely on technology to alert our staff members, students and families in a timely manner.

Over the last two years, Brooklyn Center Community Schools (BCCS) has partnered with The I Love You Guys Foundation to update our emergency procedures, response protocols, and emergency language. In addition, we have worked closely with the city of Brooklyn Center to ensure our response protocols meet or exceed standard response protocol recommendations.

In the event of an emergency, communications will be sent out to families as soon as possible. This could include:

  • The type of action that was taken (i.e. HOLD, SECURE, LOCKDOWN, EVACUATE, SHELTER)

  • The duration of the action and reasoning (when applicable)

  • Any implications the action may have on end of day procedures

  • Relocation site and re-unification information (if needed)

Parents, guardians, and families can expect to receive emergency communications via phone call, text message, and emails. To ensure your email and phone number is up-to-date in the district's database, log into your ParentVue account and update your contact information.

While there is an option to opt-out of messages from the district, we recommend that all families stay connected with us to receive important severe and winter weather related messages and/or emergency communications.

“We encourage all our families to take the time to read the details of our emergency response plan,” Communications Coordinator Olivia Doeden said. “Our top priority is always ensuring the safety of our students and staff while providing the most accurate information to our families in a timely manner.”

If the capital project levy on the November 5 ballot is approved by voters, our district will be able to continue to enhance our technology systems to up-to-date when it comes to school emergency response systems.
