February is Career and Technical Education (CTE) Month!

February is Career and Technical Education (CTE) Month! CTE in our schools is essential for students to explore their career options before graduation through hands-on opportunities. Brooklyn Center Community Schools is proud to offer a growing number of CTE partnerships for high schoolers.

Partnerships include opportunities in Information Technology (IT), business, construction, medical training, and other various trades through local partners like the Finishing Trades Institute, Genesys Works, AccessPoint, Brooklynk, and more.

“We recently partnered with Hennepin Technical College to provide 19 students with their CNA training that will eventually lead to obtaining their CNA certification,” said Julie Gloege, teacher at BCCS. Of the six current seniors that are working on their CNA certification, all have been offered paid internships.

“Our CTE committee values that learning goes beyond the classroom. This year, we will have close to 30% of our seniors graduating from high school with workforce readiness training,” said Gloege. “This would not be possible without the support from all of our community partners and students' willingness to engage and push outside their comfort zone.”

Students who are interested in any of these opportunities can stop by the College and Career Readiness office or talk with Mrs. Gloege to learn more.
