Early Childhood Programming Move Postponed

Subject: 5910 Redesign & Early Childhood Programming Move Update

Dear BCCS Families,

As you know, the district has been preparing to move the Early Childhood Programming over to the 5910 building this summer. As we’ve engaged in the re-coding process, we have encountered an unforeseen delay which requires an adjustment to our moving plans.

The 5910 building fire panel needs to be upgraded to meet the “educational” city code requirements in order to move additional classrooms into this building. The safety of our students and staff is always our top priority and therefore, we are postponing the Early Childhood Programming move to the summer of 2025.

Moving forward, we are planning for the following:

  • The Early College Academy will still move up to the second floor of the building in June 2024.

  • The Welcome Center staff and Adult Basic Education classes will still move to the 5910 building by August 2024.

  • All Early Learning and Early Childhood Special Education classrooms will stay in their current spaces for the duration of the 2024-2025 school year (with adjustments to their program start times, transportation routes, and lunch hours).

We will continue to share information with you this spring and summer as we prepare for the start of the 2024-2025 school year in your current programming location at Brooklyn Center Elementary School (1500 59th Avenue North, Brooklyn Center).

Again, we make this decision grounded in the safety of our students and staff. While this delay is not ideal, we are grateful for the time it allows for us to thoughtfully prepare these building spaces for our future.
