Class of 2026: Lily Yang

What is your first and last name?

Lily Yang

Which school do you attend?

Brooklyn Center High School STEAM

What groups, activities or sports have you been involved in throughout your high school career?

I joined ARISE in November of 2024. Being in ARISE has been a huge impact through my junior and senior year. I’ve learned a lot in the group when it came to educating myself about political issues and how we can help spread awareness about certain issues when it comes to our education.
I’ve also joined AVID recently in my senior year. I’ve gained many opportunities such as what being a student in college will be like. Being in AVID overall helped me understand my values as a student in the future and my long-term goals.

What is your favorite memory from high school?

My favorite memories were the last day of junior year, the pep fests, and Asian Heritage Nights.

Is there a staff member who has gone beyond for you? If so, who? How have they gone beyond?

Shout out to Ms. Megan for still being in BC since my 6th grade year before I transferred. From what I remembered, she always brought a light in our learning environments and positive energy with students and staff. I also want to shout out Fairlie and Geyer for being supportive and strict-chill teachers out there! During the start of my junior year, being in their classes felt like they have a lot of passion in wanting to make students learn and challenging them beyond. I am very grateful for all the staff and teachers I had equally.

As Centaurs, we stand front and center. What do you stand front and center for?

I stand front and center in believing that the past and present should be viewed as valuable learning experiences because you may not be aware of the potential consequences of your future actions.

What are your plans after graduation?

I plan to go to the University of St. Thomas at St. Paul starting this fall to major in biochemistry in the STEM field. My dream career is to become a radiologist.

What advice would you give someone just starting high school?

Everything is a learning opportunity that comes with consequences. It’s okay to lose friends, it’s okay to not feel okay, you live and learn. Don’t skip or procrastinate on your assignments because that will affect your junior and senior year!
