Brooklyn Center Community Schools continues to keep partnerships front and center in its Career and Technical Education (CTE) offerings. Through these ever-growing offerings, students receive hands-on training to prepare them for careers after high school.
“In CTE, our goal is to equip our students with the opportunities to explore career options and gain work experience through apprenticeships and internships through our corporate and community partners,” said Julie Gloege, Perkins/CTE coordinator.
Finishing Trades
From the 2023-2024 school year to the 2024-2025 school year, BCCS has added a Construction Pathway that includes our existing partnership with Finishing Trades Institute Upper Midwest (FTIUM) and our Exploring the Trades Enrichment Class. A total of 20 students have participated in this internship this school year, and they learn the skills necessary to pursue a career in the finishing trades. These skills include painting, drywalling, glazing windows, and framing. During the internship, students also learn personal finance and interview skills and network with companies seeking apprentices in the finishing trades.

Hennepin Tech
During the first semester this year, 17 students participated in a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) program in partnership with Hennepin Technical College. The hybrid course combines online learning, in-person skills practice, and clinical practice hours earning them the CNA certification which is one of the required components for the Practical Nursing Program at the college. The students passed their state certification exams and were honored with a nursing pin ceremony.

M-ASCEND combines best practices with innovative approaches to equitably engage, educate and support students to achieve success in the biomedical and behavioral sciences.
