Centaur Beginnings
Centaur Beginnings is a fee-based child care program for children 6 weeks - 3 years old.
Age group: Children of BC staff, students with limited community spaces.
Location: Centaur Beginnings located inside of the BC Early College Academy
Dates: Mondays – Thursdays (June 20 - August 10 / Closed July 3-7)
Times: 7 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.

This class is designed to incorporate elements of preschool and childcare with an extensive focus on social and emotional learning to prepare for the upcoming school year. Need additional care throughout the week? Kids who attend Summer Preschool Prep can also register for Summer Centaur Plus the other two days of the week.
Age group: 3 and 4 year olds who are finishing preschool but not eligible for kindergarten yet

BCCS partners with Three Rivers Camp to provide outdoor, nature-focused explorations for school-aged children. Explorer Camps are affordable, accessible, and fun. Activities take place outdoors. Topics may include: plants and animals, games, outdoor skills, and an off-site field trip.

KinderPrep offers incoming kindergarten students an opportunity to acclimate to the school schedule, structure, separation, and stamina for students who may have little to no previous school experience.

Program dates: Monday – Thursday, June 20 – July 27 (no program Monday, July 3rd and Tuesday, July 4th)

Cost: Free - Transportation provided for those who qualify and register by June 1. Breakfast and lunch are provided for all participants.
Eligibility: Students must be enrolled in Kindergarten at Brooklyn Center Elementary for the 2023-2024 School Year with little to no Pre-Kindergarten experience. Priority enrollment followed. Limited seats available.

STEP offers daily academic and enrichment opportunities. Licensed teachers, qualified youth program staff, and community partners will work with students to help them identify their interests and strengths and develop their academic skills. Students will be able to self-select clubs of interest from such areas as physical activity, music and arts, STEAM and more.

Fundamentally Sound Athletics Sports Camp
FSA Sports Camp introduces participants to a new sport each week. Days will consist of games and skill-based activities designed to increase awareness and comfort within each sport. Registration is available for each individual week allowing youth to select the sports of their choice.

CreateMPLS is teaming up with the Northwest Suburban School District to bring hands-on STEM programming to students at Zanewood Community a STEAM school, Montrose Elementary School of Innovation and Brooklyn Center STEAM. Working together and problem-solving are two things we all find valuable in our classrooms. CreateMPLS will incorporate social-emotional learning concepts in their teaching while using LEGO curriculum, coding programs, and science and technology principles. We would be honored to have your student join us this summer for three weeks of building, coding and learning about robotics. Lunch, snacks,a water provided each day!

LEAP helps students accelerate their skills in reading and math and offers exciting enrichment activities in such areas as arts, entrepreneurship, youth leadership, physical activity, STEM, and more! This summer, LEAP participants will select from a variety of engaging camp-style activities to personalize their experience. The program is led by licensed teachers and qualified youth program staff.

Times: 9:30 am - 2:00 pmCredit Recovery & Acceleration
This summer, Credit Recovery sessions will be offered both in-person and virtually. Students will have the option to complete full courses through the APEX platform or finish courses that they began during the school year. A licensed teacher will provide ongoing coaching and support to the student as they progress through their course(s). Credit Acceleration courses will be offered onsite for high school students interested in earning an elective credit. Onsite elective courses will be offered based on staff and student interest. The credit acceleration program provides students the opportunity to earn high school elective credits in courses that they may not be able to schedule during the school year.

- Centaurs Who Code | BC Students Who Code is for students who wish to join a community of supportive peers and role models using computer science to change the world. Throughout this class, students will learn to see themselves as computer scientists, gain exposure to project management and problem solving techniques, and learn the foundational computer science concepts that form the basis for all programming languages (including Scratch, Swift, Python, and Javascript). Students will also learn about women and non-binary identifying professionals in tech around the world. Students can earn high school course credit, and do not need to have any previous coding experience.
- Business By Design | Want to start your own business? Learn how to develop your own business and earn high school and college credit while doing it! Business by Design is a digital entrepreneurship course and innovation challenge. Students use human-centered design to develop a business product or service that responds to an issue or need in their community. Every student learns how to design, develop and prototype a business concept – resulting in an actionable business plan. Students will practice entrepreneurial thinking, human centered design, business development, digital prototyping, and have the chance to pitch their concept to industry professionals at a culminating event. This course is aligned to MN English Language Arts Academic Standards and earns .25
